Affiliated Researchers was sub-contracted behalf of USEPA to provide its bathymetric and side-scan services along approximately 2.5 miles of the East Grand Calumet River in Gary, Indiana

Affiliated Researcher utilized its professionally trained survey team and its 16’ Alumaweld survey vessel to conduct single-beam bathymetric surveying at the project site. Affiliated Researcher used its Trimble SPS855 RTK-GPS survey equipment, connected to a Verizon Cradlepoint internet network router to transmit highly accurate real-time RTK-GPS corrections to the Trimble R10 RTK-GPS survey equipment “rovers” and an Applanix Wavemaster motion sensor system onboard the survey vessel. All equipment calibration and QAQC protocols for the bathymetric survey were conducted in accordance with the US Army Corps of Engineers hydrographic survey manual.

To create adequate bathymetric coverage, the bathymetric survey was conducted along cross-channel survey transect lines established at 50’ intervals. The survey transect lines were developed using HYPACK and AutoCAD software. Survey transect lines were displayed on the onboard computer for survey navigation.

Affiliated Researcher utilized its professional trained survey team, its 16’ Alumaweld survey vessel, Klein 3500 Hydrochart system, and Applanix Wavemaster motion sensor system onboard the survey to conduct a high-resolution side-scan survey of the project site. A high-resolution side-scan survey of the project site was performed to provide GPS-referenced imagery to identify underwater structures.

Affiliated Researchers developed the side-scan data using industry-recognized hydrographic software to include HYPACK/HYSWEEP and SonarWiz, to create a high-resolution side-scan survey of the project site.
