Side-Scan Sonar Surveying

Specializing in environmental research, mapping, and technology, AFFILIATED RESEARCHERS utilizes advanced hydrographic instruments and software to provide side-scan sonar surveying of lakes, harbors, rivers, canals, estuaries, and marine environments.

Side-scan sonar surveying (SSS) is the preferred method when high-resolution is required. The exceptionally high detail and resolution provided by the SSS services of AFFILIATED RESEARCHERS, is often better than prescribed project criteria. In addition to providing precise, detailed, and complete underwater imagery mosaics, side-scan surveying has been successfully used to locate wrecks, debris, obstructions, artifacts, and substrate types.

AFFILIATED RESEARCHERS utilizes Klein systems to collect side-scan data in both shallow and deep waters. Klein systems incorporate Chirp technology and are considered “Best in Class” with specifications better-than that set forth by NOAA and the IHO. The Klein system collects more than 60,000 side-scan data points per second, providing excellent 1.2 cm image resolution, and a swath range of up to 400 meters. Co-registered interferometric multi-beam data can be collected simultaneously with certain Klein side-scan systems.

AFFILIATED RESEARCHERS uses the most advanced hydrographic survey software to collect and process the side-scan data. Virtual 3D fly-through capability of the side-scan survey can also be developed by AFFILIATED RESEARCHERS. Our deliverables include geo-referenced backgrounds such as of aerial photographs, engineering plans, land surveys, and other databases to show information relevant to the project.

AFFILIATED RESEARCHERS provides its services nationwide. Please contact our office to discuss your project.
